Herniated Disc

Herniated Disc Treatment

At Advanced Spine & Orthopedics, we offer expert medical care for a variety of issues including a herniated disc. Our team can properly diagnose the cause and severity of your herniated disc and formulate a treatment plan that can provide you with the relief you need.

What Is a Herniated Disc?

A herniated disc can happen to anyone, especially as a person ages. Your spine is comprised of bones with a soft, gel-like substance connecting each. This connective disc absorbs shock and keeps the bones from rubbing together while allowing the spine to bend, twist or flex. As you age, your discs can dry out which causes structural damage. If you incur an injury to the spine and the disc ruptures, the gel can be pushed out.

When the disc is damaged or ruptured, it may result in back pain. Your orthopedic spine doctor at Advanced Spine & Orthopedics in Southlake can properly diagnose your back pain to determine if you have a herniated disc.

Other Causes of Back Pain

  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Arthritic Spine

Symptoms of a Herniated Disc

Back pain is a frequent symptom of a herniated disc. Depending on the location of the herniated disc, the back pain may radiate into the neck area or it may move down into the leg area. Our spine specialist, Dr. Kevin James, has the experience to properly diagnose and treat back pain associated with a herniated disc. If you are experiencing a loss of bladder and/or bowel control, Dr. James recommends you seek immediate medical attention.
